Awareness Talk on "Thalassemia"

An Extension Lecture on 'Thalassemia' was organized by the Red Ribbon Club and Red Cross Club of Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala, with the aim of making students aware of their health. Dr. Surjeet Kaur, a renowned gynecologist, social worker, former President of the Inner Wheel Club of India Association and a prominent leader, graced the occasion as the Resource Person. On this occasion, Dr. Meena Sethi, President, Inner Wheel Club of Kapurthala and Mrs. Sonika Aggarwal, DESO, Inner Wheel Club of Kapurthala, were specially present. Addressing the students, Dr. Surjeet Kaur explained that Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder. In this condition, the body fails to produce sufficient or proper haemoglobin, leading to anemia or blood deficiency. She stated that it is inherited through genes from parents. She discussed the symptoms of this disease in detail and emphasized that testing before pregnancy and genetic counseling are extremely important for prevention. It can be prevented through timely testing and proper treatment. College Principal Dr. Archna Garg appreciated the efforts of Mrs. Sarika Kanda, Convener of Red Ribbon and Red Cross Clubs and her team, stating that awareness on such health-related topics is very essential for making students conscious about their health. On this occasion, Members of the college's Red Ribbon Club and Red Cross Club, along with students, were present. Mrs. Priyanka Sharma, Member of the Red Ribbon Club, excellently conducted the proceedings.
