Commemoration of 'World Book Day'
A Book Fair was organized on the occasion of World Book Day by the Bhasha Manch and College Library Committee, in collaboration with District Language Office, Kapurthala. The event featured esteemed guests, including Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur, District Language Officer, Mrs. Promila Arora, a renowned literary figure, Sardar Kanwar Iqbal Singh from the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology Department, Dr. Paramjit Singh Mansa, a Gurubani thinker and Dr. Jaswinder Kaur. Mrs. Promila Arora addressed the students, highlighting the significance of books in teaching life skills and enriching life experiences. She recited her poem, "If you want to get addicted, get addicted to reading books," emphasizing the importance of reading for the younger generation. Sardar Kanwar Iqbal Singh noted that poetry is a source of inspiration for students and books on language and literature motivate individuals to move forward in life. Dr. Paramjit Singh Mansa discussed the greatness of Indian culture and civilization, emphasizing that ancient scriptures are a treasure trove of knowledge. He highlighted the role of teachers in imparting knowledge and connecting students with books and great scriptures. Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur stressed the importance of developing a deep connection with books for knowledge acquisition, noting that despite the changing times and the rise of the internet, books remain as relevant as ever. College Principal Dr. Archna Garg stated that the books are true friends that guide us in life and help us reach new heights. The event witnessed the active involvement of faculty members, including Dr. Kulwinder Kaur, Head, P.G. Department of Hindi, Dr. Bhupinder Kaur, Head, P.G. Department of Punjabi, Dr. Neetu Bhargava, Convener, Library Committee, Academic Incharge Mr. Sanjeev Bhalla, Members of the Library Committee namely Dr. Anupam Sabharwal, Er. Inderjeet Kaur Bal, Dr. Tajinder Kaur and Librarian Ms. Sheela. Students from the college and nearby schools also attended this exhibition. Dr. Jasdeep Kaur, Convener of the Bhasha Manch skillfully managed the proceedings.
Motive : To promote reading culture, highlight the importance of books in learning and personal growth, and encourage a love for literature among students.
Outcome : Students developed a greater appreciation for reading and literature. The celebration sparked interest in books and encouraged students to read more. Bibliophiles explored various genres and authors, broadening their literary horizons.
The event fostered a sense of community among book lovers in the college. Readers gained insights into the importance of books in learning and personal growth. Overall, the celebration nurtured a culture of reading among the students.
