Educational Trip
Motive- Educational trips are a perfect platform for students to bond, not only with their own peers but also with the teachers and adults who accompany them in a new environment. Such trips help children to open up, socialize and get to know each other better outside the classroom.
Report-Department of Social Sciences, Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala organised an educational trip to Partition Museum and Jalianwala Bagh at Amritsar on 12th March 2023. Students visited different galleries of the museum depicting partition scenarios, pictures of political leaders participated in freedom struggle, newspaper headlines of partition time and collection of goods donated by refugees. Students also saw videos of uprooted families and their experiences and slide shows about Jalianwala Bagh incident. The exhibits were insightful and explained a detailed summary of the incidents of freedom struggle and partition. Ms. Seema Rani, Head, Department of Social Sciences, Dr. Amanjyoti and Ms. Navjot Kaur accompanied the students.
Outcome-Going to important historical museums gives students the opportunity to visualise, experience and discuss the topics they study in order to gain greater understanding. Not only will students recall the experience long after the trip, they may start to develop historical empathy, contextualising historical actions and understanding people of the past. This gives them a deeper understanding of people, places and situations which in turn can teach students critical thinking in their own life.
