'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' observed at Hindu Kanya College

NSS Units of Hindu Kanya College and Collegiate School, Kapurthala, commemorated 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' (Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas) on 14th August 2026 to remember the sufferings of many Indians during the Partition. On this occasion, Dr. Aman Jyoti, NSS programme officer, elaborated the historical relevance of the day to the students. She stated that since 14 August 2021, 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' has been observed annually in India to honour the millions of lives lost, the massive displacement of 10 to 20 million people and the profound suffering during the 1947 Partition. It serves as a solemn reminder of the human cost of division. Dr. Aman Jyoti reminded the students to uphold the hard‑earned Indian freedom by contributing their services to the overall development of India. A highly moving documentary was also shown to students, depicting how numerous families were displaced and many lost their lives during the Partition. College Principal Dr. Archna Garg, while expressing her concern on the day, said that this day aims to remind all Indians of the need to remove social divisions and disharmony and to further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony, and human empowerment.
