The Department of Cosmetology of Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala organized a workshop on 'Advanced Hair Cut' on 8th October 2024. It aimed to enhance students' knowledge regarding modern hair cutting techniques and to boost their interest in the field of self grooming. Mrs. Ekta Ahuja from Sundarta Family Salon and Academy, Kapurthala shared detailed information on hair cutting theory . She emphasized the importance of precision while cutting hair to achieve the desired results. She also highlighted the growing demand for the skilled hairstylists, stating that this field offers high returns on the feasible investment. Demonstrating various techniques, Mrs. Ahuja showcased straight, U-V, layer and feather cuts. She patiently addressed students' queries and provided satisfactory answers.

589 | Literary Competition-2023 | 08/02/2024 | Approved | A Literary Competition was organized to motivate budding writers to improve their writing skills and imaginative craft by providing them a chance to write on any specific topic or literary genre in any language of their choice, thus allowing freedom in style and subject matter.
Outcome: Students got the opportunity to express themselves in the languages of their choices. Students exhibited their linguistic flair, innovation in drafting the articles, poems, stories etc. using their imagination and creativity. The language wise winners were declared. Anjali of B.A.- 6th Semester, Pragna of B.C.A-4th Semester and Komalpreet Kaur of 10+1 Commerce got the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions from all the entries in the English language. Sukhrajdeep Kaur of 10+2(Commerce), Kirti of 10+2(Medical) and Khushpreet Kaur of B.B.A.-2nd Semester were declared 1st, 2nd and 3rd from the Punjabi section. Jaspreet Kaur from B.A. -6th Semester and Kirti from 10+2(Medical) were adjudged 1st and 2nd from Hindi section.

Under Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, cleanliness activities are being conducted across the district from 17 September to 2 October, under which the youth are actively participating in the campaign and collecting single-use plastic waste and spreading awareness to reduce its use.

दिनांक 19-09-24 को हिंदू कन्या कॉलेज, कपूरथला के स्नातकोत्तर हिंदी विभाग द्वारा हिंदी भाषा की शक्ति और सामर्थ्य को समर्पित हिंदी भाषा प्रोत्साहन समारोह का आयोजन किया गया। समारोह में मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में डॉ. अमरसिंह वधान (एमेरिट्स प्रोफेसर), विशिष्ट अतिथि के रूप में डॉ. अजय शर्मा, शिरोमणि साहित्यकार, डॉ. हरनीत कौर शोभायमान हुए । कॉलेज प्रबंधक समिति के अध्यक्ष श्री तिलकराज अग्रवाल जी ने कार्यक्रम की अध्यक्षता की । इस अवसर पर भीष्म साहनी की कहानी 'चीफ की दावत' का नाट्य रूपांतरण प्रस्तुत किया गया । क्विज़ प्रतियोगिता की मेजबानी डॉ. कुलविंदर कौर, अध्यक्ष, हिंदी विभाग ने की। भारती, वाणी, शारदा व पद्मा टीमों की रोचक प्रतियोगिता में हंसराज ममहिला महाविद्यालय की टीम भारती ने प्रथम स्थान प्राप्त किया। कार्यक्रम के विशिष्ट अतिथि डॉ. अजय शर्मा ने अपने संबोधन में कहा कि हिंदी रोज़गार की भाषा है । अपने अंदर एक जुनून पैदा करें, खुद को अपने कदमों में सफलता के काबिल बनाएं। मुख्यातिथि डॉ. अमरसिंह वधान ने हिंदी भाषा के महत्व पर ज़ोर देते हुए विद्यार्थियों से कहा कि इस डिजिटल युग में हिंदी ही एकमात्र ऐसी भाषा है जो सभी को जोड़ने का काम करती है। हिंदी का हर शब्द जब दूसरे शब्दों के साथ ठीक से मिल जाता है तो गहरे अर्थ की समरूपता पैदा करता है। भाषा साहित्य को समृद्ध बनाती है। विशिष्ट अतिथि डॉ. हरनीत कौर ने हिंदी दिवस की बधाई देते हुए कहा कि भाषा ही वह साधन है जिसके माध्यम से हम अपने विचारों और भावनाओं को प्रभावशाली ढंग से व्यक्त कर सकते हैं। साप्ताहिक गतिविधियों में *हिन्दी भाषा प्रोत्साहन सप्ताह* का शुभारम्भ 14 सितम्बर को हिन्दी दिवस को समर्पित विशेष असेम्बली द्वारा किया गया। इस अवसर पर डॉ. तेजिंदर कौर, सहायक प्रो., हिंदी विभाग ने विद्यार्थियों को संबोधित करते हुए हिंदी भाषा की महत्ता बताई और सप्ताह भर की गतिविधियों का विवरण दिया। 16 सितंबर को हस्ताक्षर अभियान एवं शब्दज्ञान प्रतियोगिता, 17 सितंबर को चित्र से मौलिक रचना लेखन प्रतियोगिता, 18 सितंबर को 'मेरी भाषा हिंदी' विषय पर निबंध लेखन प्रतियोगिताएं आयोजित की गई । अंत में कॉलेज प्राचार्य डॉ. अर्चना गर्ग जी ने हिंदी दिवस की बधाई देते हुए कहा कि हिंदी भाषा न केवल हमारी पहचान है, बल्कि यह हमारे जीवन मूल्यों, संस्कृति और परंपराओं की सही संवाहक और संप्रेषक भी है। हमें उसका सम्मान करना चाहिए । कॉलेज में पधारे मुख्य अतिथि एवं विशिष्ट अतिथि को स्मृति चिह्न प्रदान किए गए । | स्नातकोत्तर हिंदी विभाग, हिन्दू कन्या कॉलेज, कपूरथला | डॉ. अमरसिंह वधान (मुख्यातिथि), डॉ. अजय शर्मा (विशिष् ट अतिथि), डॉ. हरनीत कौर (विशिष्ट अतिथि) | tajinder | डॉ. अमरसिंह वधान, प्रोफेसर एमेरिट्स (चंडीगढ़) (मुख्यातिथि),

She explained various practical steps that people can take to safeguard their personal information and data, especially on social media platforms and during online transactions.The talk covered topics like cyber hygiene, best practices for password management and understanding the risks associated with online financial activities. College Principal Dr. Archna Garg appreciated the efforts of NSS Programme Officer, Mrs. Suvit Das and her Unit for enthusing students to stay vigilant and responsible in the cyber world.

Mrs. Rachna, Makeup Expert, Kapurthala gave detailed information to the students about the new makeup products and the right way to enhance their impact on the face. While addressing the queries of the students, she told that it is very important to prepare the skin before applying make-up that helps in clearing the pores of the skin, and thereby, the final result of make-up also comes out satisfactorily. She also gave a live demo of 'Glam Look Makeup' in which she created a glossy makeup look. Renowned Make-up Expert, Mr. Aman Rajput from Kapurthala shared his insights into bridal makeup theory and emphasized on the importance of skin preparation before applying makeup products on the face. He conducted a live demonstration of nude glittery eye makeup to accentuate the eyes.

Objective: The objective of the activity was to educate the students about the ill-effects of drugs and alcohol and to motivate them to become volunteers of Anti-Drug activities in their life. It also aimed at preventing the initiation of drug use to overcome their stress.
Report: A Declamation contest was organized on 'Drug Abuse' on 3rd November 2023 at Government Senior Secondary School, Sidhwan Dona. Nine Students of the school expressed their grave concern regarding the drug addiction and it's catastrophic impact on the lives of young people. The competition was adjudged by Mrs. Neelam Danish and Mrs. Dheeraj Walia. Dr. Veena , Convener of Buddy Group paid her gratitude to the school Principal Balwinder Singh, staff and students for their cooperation and support. On this occasion Gurpreet Kaur, Member of Buddy Group and staff from the school were present. Principal Dr. Archna Garg applauded the initiative taken by the members of the Buddy Group for contributing their services for spreading awareness among students regarding drug abuse. Outcome: Students were able to understand the harmful impact of drug consumption on the lives of young people.The activity also helped them to develop strategies to overcome stress and make safer and healthier choices in future.

NCC and NSS Units along with Nature Eco Club of Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala observed one-day cleanliness drive under the 'Swachta Hi Sewa' campaign on 30th September 2023. 40 NCC Cadets cleaned the historical monuments of the town which included Moorish Mosque, Janjh Ghar and Shiv Mandir. 31 student volunteers from NSS Units and Nature Eco Club cleaned the roadside ramps, staircase area opposite Reliance Trends at Mall Road and Ride area of Camera Bagh, Kapurthala. On 2nd October, a debate on 'Swachta Hi Sewa', Poster Making Activity on the key theme were organised. Teachers from all departments, clubs and units gave new students a brief overview of courses, support services and their future avenues. Saplings were distributed to the students by Nature Eco Club to make them aware regarding the importance of planting trees to preserve and protect the environment.

Er.Tanya Goel, Faculty from the P.G. Department of Computer Science and IT provided valuable information to the students about cyber laws and cyber-crimes.
Outcome : Students were guided to become more vigilant about the dangers posed by cyber threats and to take precautions to protect themselves and their private Information. Through this event students were made aware about the goal of cyber security that is is to ensure secure storage, control access and prevent unauthorised processing, transfer, or deletion of data. They also came to know about the cyber laws and cyber-crimes, particularly related to frauds in online shopping and the risks associated with the increase in social network users, which can sometimes lead to online job fraud. Students were also advised to format devices, reset passwords regularly and report suspicious activities for staying safe online. They were also motivated to share these techniques with their parents and family members.

Mr. Gurcharan Singh, Branch Manager, Punjab National Bank and his wife, Mrs. Sheena Soni graced the occasion as yajmans of this pious ceremony. Sh. Outcome: The pious Havan provided a fresh and auspicious start of the session. Students and staff offered their prayers to the Almighty for the overall development of institution and for their success and prosperity in the session ahead. Through this practice, students were motivated to embrace and imbibe moral values and religious piety in their daily course of life. Outcome : Students were benefitted from the guidelines and tips given by the Resource Person. They received an experiential knowledge beyond their curriculum and learnt to apply the sweat-proof and weatherproof makeup by using airbrush applicator. They also learnt the technique of using airbrush applicator 5 to 6 inch away from the skin to achieve an impeccably smooth finish.

College Library and Readers’ Club of Hindu Kanya College. Kapurthala celebrated National Library Week with great enthusiasm from 14th to 19th November 2022. These celebrations were organized to follow a practice initiated by Shri I.V.Ramayya, recognized as the "Architect of Public Library Movement in India" and as per the guidelines of ILA (Indian Library Association)to observe 14th to 20th November as National Library week all over India since 1968. The main aim has been to let the public know about the libraries and to develop reading, writing and analytical faculties among young learners.The whole week remained buzzing with plethora of knowledge enhancing activities. 14th November 2022 was dedicated to Children's Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Books based on Honourable Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru and children were displayed to elucidate his contribution towards India's freedom. Madam Principal Dr. Archna Garg inaugurated the event. On 15th November 2022, Book Review Competition was organized. 54 students of the college participated in book review competition. Kannan of B. A. 1st year, Harpreet Kaur of M. A 3rd semester and Manpreet Kaur of B. Com 3rd semester were selected as the best reviewers in Hindi, Punjabi and English language respectively. On 16th November 2022, “Design a Book-Mark Competition was conducted in which 22 students from college and Collegiate school participated enthusiastically and crafted beautiful Bookmarks to flaunt their artistic imagination and innovative ideas. Vidhi Sharma of B.Com 1st Semester, Arshdeep of B.C.A.- 5th Semester and Megna of 10+1 (Arts) stood first, second and third respectively in this competition. Thereafter, a Debate Competition was staged on 17th November 2022 on the topic “Stubble Burning” which was worth-enjoying and informative session for the audience. The highlight of the event was the question answer round as a volley of questions was answered confidently by the speakers of both sides. The session was a kaleidoscope of opinions and perspectives backed effectively by the supporting facts that definitely enhanced the knowledge and understanding of the topic among students. Total 12 students participated in this interactive session. Sukhmanjot Kaur of B.A. -5th Semester stood 1st, Diksha of B.Com.-3rd Semester got the second position, Kashish of B.Com.- 1st Semester and Manjot of B.A.-1st Semester got third position in this competition. On 18th November , an Essay Writing Competition was organized on the topic, " A Library is the Heart of an Institution" on a quote given by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, 2nd President of India. 42 students from College and Collegiate school participated in this competition to display their imaginative and creative faculties and presented their views on how Library plays a vital role as an indispensable tool of learning process; starting from the toddler-school life to the higher education- till the research and even beyond. Gurleen Kaur of B.Com-1st Semester got first position, Jaismeen Kaur of B.C.A. -1st Semester got the second position and Jyoti Kumari of U.G. Diploma in Stitching and Tailoring was declared third in this competition. On the last day of National Library week, A Poem Recitation Competition was organized for the young poets to discover their poetical talent. Young poets rhymed on the "Importance of Books" and expressed their thoughts with confidence. Pragna of BCA 3rd Sem & Kashish of B. Com 1st stood first and Sania & Sukhrajdeep Kaur of 10+2 got appreciation award in Poetical Recitation. Dr. Archna Garg, Principal of the college appreciated the special endeavors put in by the Readers’ Club, Library Staff and encouraged young readers to participate in such knowledge enriching and confidence boosting activities for their holistic development.

Dr. Yogesh Sehgal from Civil Hospital, Kapurthala performed the checkup of villagers and prescribed them medicines, free of cost.
Outcome: The necessary healthcare services were provided by the Cell to the villagers free of cost, with the help of a team of medical experts from the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala. Villagers were being diagnosed and suggested the precautionary measures to address the alarming health issues in time and prescriptions were provided to them by the doctor. This initiative of the Cell not only benefitted villagers, but also sensitised student volunteers of the Cell to participate in the community awareness programs.

Outcome: Bhasha Manch provided a golden opportunity to the students for exhibiting their proficiency and artistry in the Punjabi handwriting by using traditional reed pen and Inkpot. Outcome: Volunteers played a crucial role in creating a positive impact on the community by encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices and promoting environmental conservation.
A wide variety of saplings like mango, guava, jamun and bhel patri suitable for the local ecosystem were distributed and planted in the village. Report :- To tell the historical importance of April 13, the department of History today arranged a special session to show a documentary, prepared by BBC, on Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. Earlier, Dr. Aman Jyoti, Department of History, put the light on this disastrous incident. Thereafter, Mrs. Seema Rani, Head, Department of History explained relevance of the day with respect to the Sikh History. She told that on this day, in 1699, the tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji established Khalsa Panth.
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, also known as the Amritsar massacre, took place on 13 April 1919. A large, peaceful crowd had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Punjab, British India, to protest the Rowlatt Act and arrest of pro-independence activists Saifuddin Kitchlew and Satyapal.
Outcome:- Students got to know about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre is rightly regarded as a watershed moment in Indian history. This incident permanently damaged relations between Indians and Britishers.

Motive: The purpose of the visit was to create awareness about the importance of preserving our cultural heritage and to educate the youth about the rich history of our country.
Place Visited:
The NSS volunteers visited one heritage place in Kapurthala district, namely Moorish Mosque. This place hold a significant historical and architectural importance.
Moorish Mosque:
The Moorish Mosque, also known as the Kapurthala Mosque, is a stunning piece of Islamic architecture that was built in 1930 by the last ruler of Kapurthala, Maharaja Jagatjit Singh. The mosque was inspired by the Grand Mosque of Marrakesh, and its unique design and exquisite craftsmanship have made it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Kapurthala.
The program officers provided information on the history and significance of this heritage place. The volunteers were also given the opportunity to explore the site on their own and take photographs.
Outcome: The visit had a significant impact on the NSS volunteers. They gained a better understanding of the historical and cultural significance of the site and the importance of preserving them for future generations. The visit also gave them a sense of pride in their cultural heritage.

Report-Department of Social Sciences, Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala organised an educational trip to Partition Museum and Jalianwala Bagh at Amritsar on 12th March 2023. Students visited different galleries of the museum depicting partition scenarios, pictures of political leaders participated in freedom struggle, newspaper headlines of partition time and collection of goods donated by refugees. Students also saw videos of uprooted families and their experiences and slide shows about Jalianwala Bagh incident. The exhibits were insightful and explained a detailed summary of the incidents of freedom struggle and partition. Ms. Seema Rani, Head, Department of Social Sciences, Dr. Amanjyoti and Ms. Navjot Kaur accompanied the students.
Outcome-Going to important historical museums gives students the opportunity to visualise, experience and discuss the topics they study in order to gain greater understanding. Not only will students recall the experience long after the trip, they may start to develop historical empathy, contextualising historical actions and understanding people of the past. Report-On 24th February 2023, Nature Eco Club of Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala organised an Extension Lecture on the topic *Say No to Plastic* to make the students aware of hazardous effects of using plastic. Puneet Puri, Dean Academics and Head of Zoology Department, DAV College, Jalandhar was the keynote speaker. Addressing the students, he informed them about the harmful effects of the plastic on health as well as on the environment. He explained that plastic is injurious to health as it causes many diseases including cancer and breathing related severe issues and also harm the wildlife. He advised to use the metal utensils instead of the plastic ones. He elaborated the topic through case studies and Power Point Presentation. Convener of the Nature Eco Club, Mrs. Seema Thakur thanked the learned speaker for sharing his valuable views. Dr. Anupam Sabharwal, IQAC Coordinator and others presented a memento to the Resource Person. The Officiating Principal, Mrs. Jaswant Kaur appreciated this initiative of Nature Eco Club as the discourse on such relevant issues is the need of the hour. An educational excursion was arranged by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kapurthala in which three students of NSS unit of Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala went to Odisha from 25th January to 3rd February 2023. It was a ten-day tour which covered some famous spots of Odisha including Bhuvneshwar, Puri and Konark . Students spent their first two days at KIIT, University, Bhuvneshwar and next two days at Gurudwara Sahib Shri Aarta Sahib, Puri. The tour began by visiting KIIS, a tribal school where more than 3 lakh students from tribal community take education as well as get the training under the programme "Earn While You Learn". Organisations like UNESCO support their idea of making young individuals the great citizens of India. The students also visited the religious places like Lingaraj Temple and Jagannath Temple that filled the students with the divine energy. Students were overwhelmed by the hospitality of Odiya people, their rich art and diverse culture. The Swargdwar Beach has its roots related to Sikh religion, where Guru Nanak Dev Ji arrived with his disciple Mardana.
Motive: To encourage the volunteers to gain knowledge about the archaeological , historic and cultural importance of Odisha
Outcome: Students also came to know about the archaeological importance of Bhuvneshwar. They visited the caves which are on two hills i.e. Udaygiri and Khandagiri built during the first century BC. Moreover, the sight of Konark Sun Temple mesmerized the students with its scenic beauty and architecture. They also visited the 'Peace Pagada’ the Shanti Stupa of Dhauligiri. The whole excursion turned out to be an educational fiesta and enjoyment trip to the students.

Report - During this seminar Resource Person Hardeep Kaur, Assistant Prof. Department of Computer Science enlightened the students regarding cyber crimes. She explained to the students how the fraudsters commit cyber crimes and elaborated various types of the cyber crimes like Email and internet fraud, identity fraud, card cloning, sim swap, cyber extortion , ransomeware attack and website defacement. She also suggested students how to take precautions to escape from cyber crimes like authentication techniques and password security. She advised to file a complaint on the online portal in case of cyber frauds and crimes. Er. Tanya Goel also cautioned students about the types of WhatsApp messages received from fraudsters to gain access of their devices.
Outcome - By providing practical tips and advice for staying safe online, a seminar on cyber awareness helped the attendees to adopt better cybersecurity practices and habits.
